Function room & Conference Venue Hire

Recently refurbished to a very high standard, the Abbey's inspiring medieval monastery complex - the Priory Buildings - is a uniquely characterful and memorable venue that is perfect for wedding breakfasts and receptions, those special family parties, business meetings, conferences or training events.

The Great Hall, Prior’s Hall, Wilfrid Room and Etheldreda Room can be hired individually or as a suite of rooms, depending on your needs. Each of the function or meeting rooms is fully accessible, and all of them benefit from fine natural light and original architectural features.

We can arrange furniture to suit your event, and we offer a range of equipment for performances, meetings and presentations, including projectors, microphones and WiFi.

Our Chef and catering team can provide everything your event or function requires from simple business breakfasts, sandwich buffets to a fine dining wedding menu. The kitchen is also available for hire for those who would prefer to self cater, or bring in their own chef. The Priory Buildings are a fully licensed premises.

The Great Hall

The Great Hall, the largest of our function rooms, celebrates the elegance of the Regency period, with its richly decorated ceiling and five large west-facing windows, which overlook the picturesque Abbey Grounds.

This is the perfect setting for wedding receptions, christening celebrations, conferences, banquets, musical performances, ceilidhs and parties for up to 150 people.

The Great Hall is often hired with the adjacent Wilfrid Room, which can act as a bar, music room, children's play space or food service area.

The Prior’s Hall

The Prior’s Hall with it's original medieval architectural feature arched windows, beautiful stone fireplace and oak floor makes this function room the most atmospheric of conference venues, or party rooms for up to 70 people.

When hiring the suite of rooms for a large party, function or wedding, the Prior's Hall is the ideal place for greeting your guests and serving welcome drinks. The room is also suitable for smaller receptions and meetings.

The Wilfrid Room

The Wilfrid Room is a light and airy meeting or function room which connects to the Great Hall and the kitchen. It is ideal as a food servery or bar area for large parties in the Great Hall. It is also perfect for smaller wedding receptions and business meetings, or conferences with a capacity of 44 people.

The Etheldreda Room

The Etheldreda Room is a uniquely charaterful function room or venue for a meeting, with Medieval arched windows facing north and a large Georgian window facing east, it is light and elegant.

When hiring the suite of rooms for a large party, the Etheldreda Room room, which is furthest from the Great Hall, is often used for serving an evening buffet, and as a quiet space for people wanting to chat with friends instead of dancing. It is also used for smaller receptions and meetings of up to 38 people.

Function Room Sizes and Pricing

We aim to be totally flexible but we do offer set pricing and packages to assist those looking for an off the shelf solution.  Our business meeting and conferancing packages (minimum 10 delegates) include room hire, furniture and equipment, refreshments, business breakfast, buffet lunch or dinner, and start at £15.50 per person for a half day, and £19.50 for a full day.  Where a room booking includes a food and drink element we normally do not make any charge for the function or meeting room hire element.

For the ultimate Hexham wedding party venue or conference event, the whole venue (includes all rooms) can be hired from as little as £70 per hour.
