Function Room Hire

Recently refurbished to a very high standard, the Abbey's inspiring medieval monastery complex - the Priory Buildings - now offers a range of unique and versatile spaces, perfect for your special celebration, family get-together, conference or training event.

The Great Hall, Prior’s Hall, Wilfrid Room and Etheldreda Room can be hired individually or as a suite of rooms, depending on your needs. Each of the rooms is fully accessible, and all of them benefit from fine natural light and original architectural features.

We can arrange furniture to suit your event, and we offer a range of equipment for performances, meetings and presentations, including projectors, microphones and WiFi.

We can provide our own high-quality in-house catering, or bring in external caterers, and can supply anything from a sandwich buffet to a full wedding menu. The kitchen is also available for hire. The Priory Buildings are a fully licensed premises.

And if you're looking for a venue with a difference for a business meeting or conference, we can offer unique ice-breakers and team building activities, alongside your room hire. These include private tours of the Abbey, out-of-hours access to our 7th century crypt, roof climbs, bell ringing, and much more!

The Great Hall

The Great Hall, the largest of our rooms, celebrates the elegance of the Regency period, with its richly decorated ceiling and five large west-facing windows, which overlook the picturesque Abbey Grounds.

This is the perfect setting for wedding receptions, christening celebrations, conferences, banquets, musical performances, ceilidhs and parties.

The Great Hall is often hired with the adjacent Wilfrid Room, which can act as a bar, music room, children's play space or food service area.

The Prior’s Hall

The Prior’s Hall adjoins the Etheldreda Room. With north-facing arched windows along one wall, a beautiful medieval stone fireplace and oak floor, this room has a cosier, more intimate feel than the other rooms.

When hiring the suite of rooms for a large party, the Prior's Hall is the ideal place for greeting your guests and serving welcome drinks. The room is also suitable for smaller receptions and meetings.

The Wilfrid Room

The Wilfrid Room is adjacent to the Great Hall and the kitchen. It is ideal as a food servery or bar area for large parties occupying the Great Hall. It is also suitable for smaller receptions and meetings.

The Etheldreda Room

The Etheldreda Room adjoins the Prior’s Hall. With Medieval arched windows facing north and a large Georgian window facing east, it is light and elegant.

When hiring the suite of rooms for a large party, the Etheldreda Room room, which is furthest from the Great Hall, is often used for serving an evening buffet, and as a quiet space for people wanting to chat with friends instead of dancing. It is also used for smaller receptions and meetings.
