Hexham Abbey Heritage Development

supporting the heritage, arts and culture at Hexham Abbey

Hexham Abbey Heritage Development is a new charity set up in 2018 to safeguard the future of the heritage, arts and culture at Hexham Abbey.

Hexham Abbey is one of the earliest seats of Christianity in England and has a strong voice in the story of the North East  from the Anglo-Saxon era onwards. Re-vived, re-formed and developed over the ages, the layers of history are written in the very walls of the Abbey, showing major building campaigns in the 7th, 12th, 13th, 15th, 19th, 20th and even 21st centuries.

The charity aims to raise funds to support the vital care, maintenance and conservation of the Abbey buildings and its collections, including the staggeringly beautiful collection of 83 medieval panel paintings, an aray of stained glass windows, a medieval rood screen, miseriecords and sedilia.

Plans are afoot to roll out a suite of ways to get involved and support the heritage of Hexham Abbey, such as by becoming a patron, sponsoring a painting or leaving a legacy.
