First wedding celebration in our Great Hall
Andrew Wyatt and Elizabeth Crawford have made history as the first couple to celebrate their wedding in our newly restored Great Hall.
The Abbey team worked day and night to have the hall looking beautiful for the celebration just days after the builders moved out following our year-long restoration project.
Andrew, who is the Abbey’s assistant organist, Elizabeth and their guests pronounced the new hall a wonderful success.
Elizabeth was also the first bride to enter the Abbey through the new cloister porch, and the service was officiated over by the Rt Revd Graham Usher, Bishop of Dudley in the West Midlands and until recently the Rector of Hexham.
Graham, who played a central role in the restoration of our medieval former monastery buildings, said he was delighted to return to Hexham to officiate at the wedding and to be among the first to enjoy the Great Hall.
The Great Hall is now available for hire for wedding receptions, special occasions and events.
